Target Audience

Pop music is mostly listened to by a teenage audience. This is partly due to the fact that the lyrics of most pop genre songs are relateable to people of that age. Pop music focuses mainly on love, relationships, friendships as well as partying and in some cases, being strong and independent. The lyrics to the song by Cher Lloyd - 'Want U Back' are about her wanting an ex-boyfriend back as she still loves him. Ke$ha's - 'Your Love Is My Drug' focuses on love that she has for someone being associated with drugs which are seen as a representation of youth. It is for this reason that i have chosen a pop genre song for my music video as it is one of the widest range of genres in music. It also means that as I am a consumer of pop music, I know most about this genre.

The target audience for my music video is teenage girls. The main reason for this is because as I am a teenager I have and insight into what they want to see in a video so I will be able to have input into the ideas that i will use. Also, my artist/main talent in my video is a 17 year old girl which means that the video would appeal most to teens rather than older adults or a younger audience. The song itself also is listened to by people my age (14-20) and so by using people like this in the video it will make both texts appeal to them. Teenagers are the main audience for music videos which is why using them in my video will make it end up selling more in the end.

The type of music video that I have chosen for my song, Rihanna – “We All Want Love” is a narrative. I decided that my artist/main actor will probably not be performing or singing along to the lyrics as I want the video to tell a story which the song will tell and also have the story in turn reflect the song itself. This means that I will have my events in the story follow a linear chronology.  As my target audience is for teenage girls, I need to include aspects that will appeal to them. A big part of childhood and young teenage years there is the idea of having a fairy-tale ending where everyone lives happily ever after. This plays a big part in the idea of my music video as I want the video to present my performer experiencing a real life fairy-tale. Fairy-tales are stories and so to show that my video will be telling a story I had the idea that the first couple of shots will be a “fairy-tale book” like the one shown which will open and start telling the story and then progress on to start the actual video. It will then end with the book from the start closing to show the end of the story and the happily ever after.

Test camera shots and effects

These are some practice shots of the different types of shot I will use for my video. I decided to do some practice ones without anybody in them to see how easy they were to do, which looked the best and which ones were most effective. I also looked at the different effects I was able to use on my camera to get an idea of which one I liked the most. In my final video I will be shooting a scene in the woods either at this location or one similar so this is why I chose to do my practice ones here.

Initial Ideas

(1/10)These are my three initial ideas. I had already thought of a general idea that I wanted to use for my video: a typical love story of girl meets boy and they fall in love. However, I hadn't yet thought of the details that would result in the two characters Vicki and Sam meeting and ending up together. The words in red are the ideas that I will use in my final product.
